The Discoverer
is a 11 day/10 night a fully escorted program (tour leader throughout), providing a unique opportunity to discover the culture and ecosystems of the world's second largest island New Guinea. Papua New Guinea is a veritable smorgasbord of color, culture and excitement. The highlight of the Discoverer program is attendance at the famous Mount Hagen Cultural Show, a world famous cultural gathering of many of the opulently decorated cultural groups of this incredibly diverse land.

Day 4 | Charter flight to Karawari. Afternoon Tour. Overnight Karawari Lodge. There are no roads, no shops and no phones. Sepik's live completely off the land, weaving baskets for catching fish; gathering, preparing and cooking their staple food from the Sago Palm. | |
Day 5 | Full Day Tour. Overnight Karawari Lodge, on a ridge overlooking the Karawari River, in the Sepik region, is a time-warped mixture of pre-technological and technological architecture - is the perfect base for some old-fashioned jungle, river and village exploration. Day 6 | Charter flight to Lake Murray. Afternoon Tour. Overnight Lake Murray Lodge Nestled among the trees on an island spit, Lake Murray lodge, the newest lodge in our portfolio, overlooks beautiful Lake Murray. The lodge has found its' home in this very remote area and on the largest lake in Papua New Guinea. Island communities of stilted houses dot the water landscape of the lake. Dugout canoes are the primary mode of transportation and fishing is a major source of food to the local population. | |

Full Day Tour. Overnight Lake Murray Lodge. Lake Murray is the largest lake in Papua New Guinea. During the wet season it spreads to occupy an area of about 2000 square kilometers. It has a population of about 5,000 people scattered in small villages, both on tiny islands and coastal areas of the lake. | |
Day 8 | Charter flight to Tari. Afternoon Tour. Overnight Ambua Lodge is an inspired mixture of local architecture, spectacular views and modest luxury off the beaten track. Located at 7000 feet (2100 meters) in the PNG Southern Highlands, homeland of the Huli clan with their human hair wigs adorned with colourful flowers. Recipient of the Pacific Asia Travel Association's "Pacific Heritage Award" which sighted Ambua Lodge as "superb example of culturally sensitive and ecological responsible tourism". Ambua Lodge has thirteen species of birds of paradise close by and an amazing array of orchids. Lists of birds, orchids and other plants of the Ambua and Tari Gap area are available. | |

This is an Escorted Program and Land Cost Includes:
Accommodation, airport transfers and tours on a seat in a bus basis, meals, services of a professional tour guide throughout, local guides and show gate fees. Cost also includes all gratuities to hotel, restaurant staff, local drivers, guides and porters. Land Cost Does Not Include: Domestic and international flights, visa fees and services of a personal nature such as beverage, laundry charges, phone and fax bills etc.

You are only to book and ticket the domestic Air Niugini flights together with your international flights. We will book the Air Charter flights.
To secure space due to the popularity of our show programs, a non-refundable deposit of US$1000.00 per person is required to confirm the booking.Cancellations: Immediate: Loss of deposit until June 3; received between 4th and commencement of the tour will attract a 75% fee of the total land and air charter costs. No refund is available after scheduled arrival in Papua New Guinea or in respect of any tour, accommodation, meals or other services not utilized during the tour. Any additional costs incurred because of changes made during the itinerary by clients, will be to the client's account.
